Wanted by Girolamo Pagliano who, after he had bought the pre-existing edifice, financed the transformation in theatre which took place between 1853 and 1854; on the project of Telemaco Bonaiuti, it became a structure with six orders of platforms able to welcome almost 4000 spectators.
The most important theatre of Siena and of its province owns its origins to the adaptation of the Room of the Council built in ‘300 on the back part of the Public Palazzo. This room, where already at the occasion of the visit of Carlo V in 1536 had been organised celebrations in his honour, in 1560 was established as the stable place of spectacles, with stage and gallery, on the design of Bartolomeo Neroni called the Riccio.
Example of architectural transformation of what was the first station of the Grand Duchy railways of Tuscany since 1844 and then a market for vegetables and fruits. The Leopolda Station is nowadays a multifunctional centre for cultural and social activities managed by the Association "Casa della Città Leopolda"(House of the City Leopolda).
