From
28th June to
24th July 2011 Lucca is the capital city of music, with its
Summer Festival, a classical event of what we call the Tuscan Summer, with many artists from all over the world coming to Lucca to play on the stage on the square Piazza Napoleone.
After the success in 2010, the festival of Lucca keeps on offering high quality music of different kinds to the audience.
The 2011 program promises a whole month rich of outstanding concerts: from the musical poems of
Francesco Guccini to
Burt Bacharach and
Mario Biondi playing together; from the energy of
Zucchero "Sugar" Fornaciari; to the Indie rock of
Arcade Fire.
The second week will open with a real superstar of Brit pop:
Elton John and his band, while on 15th July one of the most important Bluesmen of the history,
B.B.King, will be on stage. Next, the classical, unmistakable soul and blues voice of
Joe Cocker.
On
16th July Amy Winehouse, one of the most original voices of pop music, will come to Lucca for her comeback to Italy; an extraordinary, exclusive Italian evening.
The last week is dedicated to other events: you can't miss
Ben Harper, the American eclectic singer and composer.
On
19th July the amazing singer, actress and dancer
Liza Minnelli will be on stage. Two days later it's time for
James Blunt, author, singer and player of different instruments. On
23rd Enrico Brignano will be here for the only summer repeat of his show "Sono romano ma non è colpa mia".
The festival will be closed by
Jamiroquai: after 5 years the awaited comeback of his tour will actually take place in Lucca, where the band played in 2002 /2005.
