From the Palazzo Ducale to San Michele in Foro
Starting from the Piazza Napoleone, where there is the Palazzo Ducale is set, and continuing one's walk towards the Piazza del Giglio, one can arrive in Piazza San Martino, that represents the most important religious centre of the city because it houses the church of San Giovanni and the Dome.
Leaving the Piazza and walking down Via dell' Arcivescovado, one can arrive at the XIV-century Case dei Guinigi. They are typically medieval houses that gave their name to the street where they were built.
Going further, one can get to the Piazza del Mercato, where today a series of buildings rise They were created along the perimeter of the Roman Amphitheatre in the course of time.
From the Amphitheatre, it is possible to reach the XVI-century basilica of San Frediano, in the Piazza del Collegio, easily. This ecclesiastic complex is the second in size after the Dome and it is peculiar for its white limestone façade.
Walking down Via C. Battisti, the destination is San Michele in Foro. It is called like this because the square where today this church is set once was the ancient Roman Forum.
