More than 400 find, often exposed for the first time, coming from the "Antiquarium della Soprintendenza Archeologica di Pompei" and from the "Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli".
During the first century after Christ in the Vesuvius cities and in a lot of other centres of the Roman empire, there was a remarkable production and a large commerce of glass objects.
Actually, this diffusion was due to an important technical innovation linked above all to precise experimental inquiries and in particular to the improvement of the technique of the glass blowing.
During the Renaissance these studies were discovered again, so that the roman glass transformed itself in a source of inspiration for the solution of theoretical problems and for the consequent scientific progress.
The exposition way of the exhibition taking place in Florence from 27/03/2004 to 16/01/2005 intends to put in evidence how it has been possible for some men to realise with the glass instruments which have contributed in a significant way to the development of science and technique, in some way linking among them the capabilities of the handicraft to the inventiveness of the philosopher/scientist.
